Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the LangLocker mobile application ("LangLocker", "the app", "we", "us", or "our"), operated by Adams Aimé-Désiré, an independent developer ("the Developer").

By downloading, installing, or using LangLocker, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. The Service

LangLocker is a language-learning application that helps you reduce distractions by locking selected apps on your device until you complete short language-learning exercises. Features include app blocking via Apple's Screen Time / Family Controls, learning exercises, pronunciation practice using your microphone, progress tracking, and optional premium features available through subscription.

We may add, change, or remove features at any time without notice.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use LangLocker. By using the app, you represent that you meet this requirement and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

3. License

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use LangLocker for your personal, non-commercial use on devices you own or control. This license is granted to you and not to any other person.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the app for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except where permitted by law.
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the app or its related systems.
  • Copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the app.
  • Use the app to circumvent device parental controls or restrictions in a manner that is unlawful or that you are not authorized to perform.

5. Subscriptions, Purchases, and Renewals

  • LangLocker may offer auto-renewing subscriptions and/or one-time purchases that unlock premium features.
  • All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store and are subject to Apple's terms.
  • Payment will be charged to your Apple account at confirmation of purchase.
  • Auto-renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
  • Managing or canceling your subscription is done through your Apple account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.
  • Free trials, where offered, automatically convert to a paid subscription unless canceled before the trial ends. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

6. Refunds

Purchases are handled by Apple, and refunds are subject to Apple's refund policies. We do not directly process payments and are generally unable to issue refunds ourselves. Please direct refund requests to Apple.

7. App Blocking — Important Notice

LangLocker uses Apple's Screen Time / Family Controls framework to block apps you select. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • App blocking is a productivity aid and is not a guaranteed, fail-safe, or tamper-proof control. Its behavior depends on Apple's operating system, which may change or behave unexpectedly.
  • You are solely responsible for the apps you choose to block and for any consequences of blocking access to them (for example, missing notifications or being unable to access an app when needed).
  • LangLocker should not be relied upon for blocking access to apps in situations where uninterrupted access is safety-critical.

8. Microphone and Speech Features

Pronunciation features require access to your microphone and speech recognition. By using these features, you consent to such access as described in our Privacy Policy. You are responsible for using these features in environments and circumstances where audio recording is appropriate and lawful.

9. Intellectual Property

LangLocker, including its name, logo, design, content, and software, is owned by the Developer and protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited license granted to you in these Terms, no rights are transferred to you. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

10. User Content and Learning Data

The learning content provided within the app is for educational purposes only. While we strive for accuracy, we make no guarantee that translations, phrases, or pronunciations are error-free or suitable for any specific purpose.

11. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that defects will be corrected. We do not guarantee any particular learning outcome or improvement in language proficiency.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE DEVELOPER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE APP.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE DEVELOPER'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above may not apply to you.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Developer from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the app or your violation of these Terms.

14. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the app at any time, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the app. You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will survive.

15. Third-Party Services

The app relies on third-party services, including Apple and Superwall. Your use of those services may be subject to their own terms and policies. We are not responsible for third-party services.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes may be communicated within the app. Your continued use of LangLocker after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

17. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the Developer resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts located in that jurisdiction, unless otherwise required by applicable law.

18. Apple App Store — Additional Terms

These Terms are between you and the Developer only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. To the extent these Terms apply to your use of the app obtained through the App Store, you acknowledge that:

  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
  • In the event the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, or consumer protection claims.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
